When is the application deadline?

The application deadline is 18th April 2017. It is better if you apply earlier. For more information on application procedure, see the specific course information.

Can you send me the application form and brochures by regular mail?

We strongly recommend you to use the online application form, as it speeds up the processing of your application. However, if you are having problems with the online form, you can print it, fill in the form, and send it to us by regular mail.

I am 18 and just finished secondary school. Am I eligible to participate in the Baltic International Summer School?

Yes, we accept applications from the age of 18.

I have already graduated university and I am working now, can I still apply for the summer school?

Yes, we welcome the applications not only from university students, but also from professionals working in the sector and people who want to deepen their knowledge in the field of communication and journalism.



What language proficiency is required to apply?

All the courses are given only in English and the students should have a good command in English in order to be able to follow the lectures, participate in the discussions and complete written assignments. The recommended language level is at least B2 according to CEFR. However, no formal language certification is requested for application.

Does the summer school offer language courses?

During the summer school, the participants have a possibility to learn the basics of the Latvian language.

Will I receive a certificate after the summer school?

Yes, after the summer school you will receive a certificate and a transcript of records stating the received credit points (ECTS).



Can I apply for a scholarship?

Yes, you can apply for the scholarship of the Exchange students tuition fee waiver. In order to apply, you have to mark the relevant box in the scholarship section in the online application form. Scholarship applicants are requested to send additional documents by e-mail.

Can I pay the participation fee upon arrival?

The participation fee must be paid by bank transfer by 3rd May 2017. All accepted applications will receive an acceptance letter indicated the bank details for payment.

If I won't be granted a scholarship, where else could I apply for one?

Unfortunately, Baltic International Summer School cannot help you with contacts to other scholarship sponsors. We recommend that you contact your own university for more information about possible scholarships or grants.



Where will the courses take place?

The summer school will take place in Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences, located in Valmiera, lively and cozy centre of Vidzeme Region.

What kind of accommodation is offered to summer school participants?

During the time in Valmiera, participants can stay in a single room in the student hostel of Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences. The rooms have beds, tables, chairs and dressers. A bathroom, shared by 2 participants, has a toilet and a shower. Linen, bedding and a towel will be provided, but we recommend you to bring additional towels. Wireless Internet is available in all university premises including the student hostel.

How many students are there in the course and where are they from?

There are normally 10-15 participants. The participants come from countries all around the world.

Should I bring my own computer or I can use the computers at the university?

You can use the computer classes, the library and the computer labs in the university building. Some computers also will be provided in the hostel. However, you can also bring your own computer which can be helpful for some individual or group works. WiFi is available in all premises.



Will someone come and meet me at the airport?

No, there won't be anybody waiting for you in the airport. To travel to Valmiera, follow the instructions here. For now it is very important to fill in your arrival form which can be found here.

How will I find my way in Valmiera?

The student hostel is located on Ausekļa iela 25a. If you arrive on your own, please see Valmiera map to find out how to get to the student hostel.
