News created - 31.07.2007

Valmiera, July 31, 2007. – This weekend 28 participants from all over the world will arrive in Valmiera, Latvia, to participate in 9th Baltic International Summer School, organized by Vidzeme University College. Throughout next two weeks they will be joined by 16 lecturers and workshop instructors from the Baltics, Europe and the United States, who will help the participants to discuss this year’s summer school’s topic – the future of public communication in the age of new media.

The summer school will officially open with a reception by the rector of Vidzeme University College Dr. hist. Vija Daukšte on Monday, August 6, where the rector and local leaders will welcome all the participants and faculty. The rector notes that “This year we have a special summer school, as it will be an introduction to a new study program at our school on media studies and journalism, which similarly to the summer school, will focus on the new media. We could not wait until the autumn when the school starts to start working on this exciting subject, so we will welcome a group of international new journalists and public relations specialists already in August to share the best of ideas of what the future might bring to the media world. I personally look forward to the results of the summer school and wish the participants a lot of productive hours of work and, of course, a good time in the Baltics!”

During the summer school classes and workshops, participants will learn about the newest trends in online media and communication, as well as produce a web site on the summer school’s topic themselves. It will contain articles and other multi-media materials about their vision of the future of communication. The final product will be presented to wider audience on the last day of summer school – August 17, and will be available to everybody online at summer school’s address

The organizers of the summer school would also like to remind to the professionals working in media and public relations that this summer school is also open to them for a little fee. Information about participation in classes and seminars, as well as schedules and application form can be found on the above mentioned summer school’s web site.
