Baltic International Summer School has been finished!
News created - 06.07.2015

Baltic International Summer School (BISS) has finished recently, which this year in the Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences gathered students and lecturers from nine different countries for the 17th time. The topic of the summer school was  “International tourism and event management/ITEM”. In the summer school students learned about local traditions and culture by celebrating Summer Solstice “Jāņi”. In lectures and creative work shops they learned about tourism and event management in Latvia.

In order to raise the interest of tourism and event management students took lectures and did some practical work. These activities and lectures were supervised and held by local professors and professionals from industry. Also students were learning from and interacting with “Nordic Baltic Choral festival 2015” organizers. At the end students made data analysis and offered their solutions for raising the visitor interest and event quality improvement in the following years.

“A beautiful summer school has ended. The participants came to the Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences with a huge motivation to learn about our language, culture and country, and also to study tourism and event management from the best professionals. The high motivation and a wish for new knowledge from participants, creates a pleasure for the work that has been done. It also raises the belief that we are working in the right direction”, admitted BISS project manager Vineta Puce.

Over all, the summer school (BISS) in 17 years has gathered more than 600 students from the entire world. Since 1999 BISS has been a traditional summer education programme, which each year is taking place at Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences. This project is organised and crated with the support form State Education Development Agency, Government of Latvia, joint master study programme “International tourism and event management/ITEM” and the Municipality of Valmiera.
