News created - 14.05.2015

The application for scholarships for 17th Baltic International summer school has been completed. The summer school will take place in Valmiera at Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences from June 21 until July 2. 29 applications have been received for programme “International Tourism and Event Management/ITEM” and 128 applications for programme “Latvia - Place for Creative Development”. Applicants are from 35 different countries all over the world.

Participants had a possibility to apply for scholarship that is coordinated by State Education Development Agency as well as partial scholarship offered by Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences in order to participate in one of two offered summer school programs.

“Latvia - Place for Creative Development” will introduce participants with different Latvian cultural aspects. This will develop a better understanding of state identity and diversity. Classes are planned in Latvian language and culture, also lectures and workshops about history, safety issues, society and economics. In this programme also excursions and educational visits play a significant role. These activities will help participants to better understand the issues discussed during the classes.

The other Baltic International Summer School program “International Tourism and Event Management/ITEM” will offer students a possibility to participate in an international and significant event. Students will do a research of the event and evaluate the work of event planners. By using the latest ICT technologies, knowledge acquired in lectures, workshops and practical tasks, participants will gain new knowledge and skills in event management.

This year’s summer school will also include celebration of Summer Solstice in the evening of June 23. This celebration is a significant tradition in Latvian culture. Therefore international students will have an opportunity to be a part of celebration and get to know the traditional Latvian culture. Baltic International Summer School which is organized by Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences, is not only an event for studies and new knowledge, but it is also an opportunity to learn about new cultures, receive new international contacts and use gained knowledge in practice.

Since 1999 BISS has been a traditional and educational program of summer, which every year takes place at Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences, Valmiera. For most of the participants this experience has developed an interest of Latvia and Baltic countries. Baltic International Summer School is organized by financial support from Valmiera Municipality and State Education Development Agency.
