The Baltic International Summer School 2009 has started with lots of fun

Finally yesterday we had the official opening ceremony with welcome speeches by the Rector of Valmiera University of Applied Sciences and other officials from the city council and Ministry of Education and Science. Nice evening with tasty snacks, wonderful music by choir „Cats” („Kaķi”) and other activities.

A possibility to get to know each other even more than before. And of course activity where we had a chance to show our artistic talent by drawing the map of the Europe. The compay  of Vineta, Elīna and Nikolaos was really original. Did yu know that there are such coutries in the Europe called Elīna and Vineta? Guess where! Afterwards all participants had a great chance to have an impression about Latvian song and dance festival by the dance play during the Valmiera city festival „From heart to heart” („No sirsniņas sirsniņai”)

„The concert was great, I liked it a lot! So many people dancing at the same time! I didn’t expected such a show. In the opening ceremony I really liked activity with the map of the Europe where we could put all the adjectives for every country. It was funny,” describes Zsofia, participant from Hungary.

But even before official opening participants of the summer school already had other possibility to get to know the city and each other by orientation through the Valmiera. A little bit tiring because of the great weather (the weather just loves us!) but still interesting to see some historical parts of the city and to know the best places to eat, to catch buses and do other things. The last destination of orientation was near the Gauja river. Had a nice picnic with tasty snacks, small fire (for somebody it was the first time to taste potatoes grilled in the fire), funny games and interesting conversations.

As Kostas from Lithuania says: „In general everything was great. I didn’t realised before coming to Latvia that here I will see so many Lithuanian busineses like Maxima. Actually everything here is even better than my expectations before.”

Pictures from the first day can be seen here.

P.S. And still we are waiting for two more participants – Lizaveta and Chandrasekaran!
